We’re proud to welcome patients with the Canadian Dental Care Plan at our Thornhill dental clinic!
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is helping make dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents. The CDCP helps cover some of the cost of various oral health care services for eligible Canadian residents. We’re here to help you navigate your benefits and get the dental care you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
All eligible Canadians can now apply for the CDCP. To qualify, you must meet all four of these requirements:
- Income Requirements
Your adjusted annual family net income must be less than $90,000 - No Private Dental Insurance
You cannot have access to dental benefits through:- Employment benefits (yours or your spouse’s)
- Professional or student organization plans
- Private insurance policies purchased by you or a family member
- Important: If you decline dental coverage through your or your spouse’s employment benefits, you will not be eligible for the CDCP.
- Canadian Residency
You must be a Canadian resident - Tax Filing Requirement
You and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax return in Canada for the previous year - Special Cases
If you have dental coverage through a provincial, territorial or federal government social program, you can still qualify for the CDCP. Your benefits will be coordinated between programs to avoid duplication.
The CDCP covers a wide range of essential dental services, including:
Preventive & Diagnostic Services
- Dental exams, including complete, routine, specific and emergency exams
- X-rays, scaling (cleaning), polishing, fluoride treatments, and sealants
Basic Restorative Services
- Fillings for cavities and broken teeth
- Crowns
Endodontic Services
- Root canals for severely decayed, infected or broken teeth
Periodontal Services
- Treatment for gums and bone around teeth
- Deep cleanings
Prosthodontic Services
- Complete and partial dentures, including standard and temporary dentures
Oral Surgery Services
- Tooth extractions and other oral surgery procedures
Sedation Services
- Services to sedate you and control pain during dental procedures
Orthodontic Services (Coming in 2025)
- Limited orthodontic services will be added in 2025, but only for cases of medical need based on strict criteria
Please note: Some services, including those beyond established frequency limits, require preauthorization by the CDCP before treatment.
The CDCP is not free dental care. The CDCP is a government dental benefit that covers a part of the cost of your care. Your costs depend on your family income:
Co-Payment Based on Income:
- Under $70,000: No co-payment required
- $70,000 – $89,999: You’ll pay a percentage of the cost
Additional Costs You May Pay:
- Balance Billing: Many of the established fees covered by the federal government do not meet the full cost of treatment in a dental office. The difference will be on you.
- Non-Covered Services: If you choose dental care that the CDCP doesn’t cover
Before receiving oral health care, you should always ask your oral health provider about any costs that won’t be covered by the plan.
Applications can be submitted through Service Canada, either on their website, by phone (1-833-537-4342), or by visiting a Service Canada Centre.
